Program Details
Intermediate STARSkate (Star 1-3) is designed to give skaters a chance to develop fundamental figure skating skills. It runs beginning of September into March. Intermediate STAR Skate is for skaters who have progressed through Junior Academy and Primary and are ready for the new challenges of the STARSkate program. This is the level where skaters can enjoy semi-private and private lessons, in addition to the group lessons at an additional fee. Skaters will be working on their Star 1-3 skills and may choose to be tested and compete in competitions at the Star 1-3 level. Skaters will work on skating programs in STAR 2 & 3 levels.
Senior STARSkate (STAR 3+) is a program designed to develop fundamental figure skating skills, in all areas of figures skating: Skating Skills, Free Skate and Interpretive Skating. This can involve group lessons and/or private lessons. In our club Senior STAR Skate ice will be Skaters Star 3 and above, unless other arrangements have been made. Skaters will have the opportunity to take Skate Canada tests and compete in interclub and invitational competitions throughout the year.
Ice Time: Scheduled group lessons Monday-Friday and private/semi-private lessons (Tuesday mornings, billed separately from the ice fee.)
Dryland: One 1 hr class, one 45-minute class per week. Skaters are expected to participate in as many dryland classes as they are able to attend. Many skills are developed in dryland classes off ice.
2025/26 Season Fees
$350 base fee + $230 per 1 hr (or 1.25 hr) session, $170 per 45 min session + $58.65 Skate Canada Membership
Skates & Attire
Skaters are expected to wear somewhat form-fitting clothing so the coach can observe their posture and position while skating. Skates should be true figure skates with good ankle support. Helmets are not required at the Intermediate/Senior level.
Club Gear
We carry a variety of sizes of skates, tights, skate guards and more. Ask us at the rink or email us at revskateclub@gmail.com.
Skate Sharpeners/Retailers
Blade Runner Skate Services in Vernon, Skater’s Edge in Port Coquitlam, and Cyclone Taylor in Vancouver all offer a variety of figure skate options in-store and online. Dolson’s Source for Sports and Sportchek also carry suitable skate options through their websites. You may also find used skates through Consignor Sports, Blade Runner Skate Service, or Facebook Marketplace.
Skate Care
For a great explanation of skate choice and maintenance, check out the Kamloops Skate Club’s Guide. Skates should be sharpened regularly and kept rust- and nick-free. Always dry blades after skating with a towel and use blade guards to protect them. This helps preserve the integrity of the skates and teaches skaters good habits early on.
Parent Expectations
All skaters must either be self-sufficient or have a designated adult present. Once a skater leaves the ice, they are no longer supervised by the coaches, who must remain on the ice. Skaters must ask permission to leave the ice and are then the responsibility of their parents. If you need to speak with a coach, please wait until after the session has ended. Skaters who do not follow on-ice behavior expectations may be asked to leave the ice. This ensures safety for all. Disrespectful or abusive language will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action by the club or coaches.
Volunteer Hours & Fundraising
RSC is a non-profit run by a volunteer board. We ask families to support fundraising activities and volunteer where possible. This participation helps keep program costs low and supports the continued success of our club. As skaters advance, their family’s contribution to volunteering is expected to grow.
Fundraising requirements per family (regardless of the number of skaters): Option 1) Opt Out: A $100 fee will be collected at the time of registration. If you choose to opt out of fundraising, this fee will not be returned. Option 2) Fundraise: Purchase $1000 worth of gift cards and the $100 fundraising fee will be returned to you at the end of the season.
